 The 2nd Annual "Heart to Heart" event was launched during Women's History Month - on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Crosley Mansion. This event celebrates the HEART of WOMEN who strive to make a difference and contribute their leadership, time and financial resources to the community by awarding them Time, Talent and Treasure Awards. We also looked forward to Tomorrow and recognized a young woman that is demonstrating leadership and caring in our community.

On Thursday, June 21st, the Women's Leadership Initiative launched their STEP INTO SUMMER event at Bonni Bakes! Bonni's delectable dessert items were a huge hit! Grant checks were awarded to 4 non-profit youth based organizations in keeping with WLI's mission of INVESTING IN THE YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY.

Women's Leadership Initiative "Holiday with a Heart" Gift Wrapping Session was held December 5, 2006 in the Community Room at United Way's office to wrap gifts that were donated by United Way's Gifts In Kind Program and were distributed to about 150 girls as gifts for their caregivers at the Third Annual "Holiday with a Heart" Celebration on December 12th at the East Branch location of Just For Girls. WLI helped to bring holiday cheer and the excitement of selecting the perfect gift to these young ladies at Just For Girls. The celebration was complete with a visit from Santa, refreshments and a small goodie bag for all.

Shopping on Main Street at Lakewood Ranch - Friday, September 15th the ladies of WLI spent an evening on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch shopping, sipping wine, enjoying delicious appetizers and raising some money for WLI. Special thanks to Raymond James for providing beverages and the use of their lovely reception area, and also to Flagship National Bank for the delicious appetizers. We had a fun time raising approximately $600!

12th Annual Children's Summit at the Civic Center – Saturday, August 12, 2006 – The ladies of WLI hosted a booth at this year's Children Summit and provided an activity for over 3000 children in Manatee County. Each year, the Children's Summit strives to provide local children and families with the information needed on services and programs available throughout Manatee County.

Step into Summer – Thursday, June 1st, 2006 – The women of WLI kicked off the summer and presented the checks for 2006 to their beneficiaries. Boys and Girls Clubs of Manatee County and Whole Child Project Manatee recieved a total of over $6000 to benefit their programs. The ladies of WLI enjoyed some fun in the sun and showed this community the strength and beauty of giving.

Powerstories Theatre - Celebrating Women's History Month – Thursday, March 2, 2006 WLI celebrated Women's History Month with the ladies from Powerstories Theatre. These everyday women have created extraordinary lives in the face of adversity and each woman had a personal and powerful story to tell that opened the hearts and minds of women in Manatee County. "Holiday with a Heart" Gift Wrap Event – December 8, 2005 – WLI wrapped gifts for our annual Holiday with a Heart Celebration. These gifts were donated by United Way's Gifts In Kind Program and were distributed to approximately 150 local children as a gift for their caregivier. WLI shared the gift of giving while bringing a little holiday cheer to the families of Manatee County who need it most.

Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) of United Way of Manatee County’s Fashion Show 2005 - On October 7th more than 110 members and guests of WLI gathered for the “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” Fashion Show. Step Into Summer May 18, 2005 - Members and guests of the Women’s Leadership Initiative met for an evening in the “tropics” on May 18th in the United Way Community Room, where they honored their commitment to support Whole Child Project Manatee as well as recognize the founding members. During the evening a check presentation was made to Whole Chile Project in the amount of $4,500.00.

Women’s Leadership Initiative Kickoff October 28, 2004 – United Way of Manatee County led the effort to begin a women’s philanthropic community impact initiative in November 2003. Throughout the following months, volunteers developed a mission statement and shared their vision while increasing awareness and membership. To celebrate its accomplishments, the Women’s Leadership Initiative held a kickoff breakfast on October 28th, 2004 at the El Conquistador Country Club with about 80 women in attendance. During the celebration Whole Child Project Manatee was acknowledged as the first recipient of WLI support. We wish to thank Manatee Memorial Hospital for sponsoring this event.
